Strand Larsen’s Double Stunner Fires Wolves to Epic Comeback Win Over West Ham in Carabao Cup Thriller
Two goals in three minutes from Jørgen Strand Larsen sealed a breathtaking Wolves comeback, as they dumped West Ham out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 victory in the second round.
The Norwegian striker, heavily linked as a Newcastle transfer target, came off the bench and delivered two ice-cold finishes in the final 10 minutes, sparking wild celebrations at Molineux.
Bowen’s Apology After Heated Post-Match Moment
After the final whistle, West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen caused a stir with his post-match reaction. While applauding the travelling fans, Bowen appeared to point at a supporter and attempted to climb the advertising boards before being restrained by teammates.
He later posted an apology on Instagram, writing:
“I’m someone who is passionate and will fight every time I step on the pitch. But I need to set a better example. You fans know how much I love you and this club!”
Bowen removed his captain’s armband and walked off the pitch with his head down, visibly dejected after the loss.
Wolves’ Dramatic Turnaround
The home side struck first just before half-time when Rodrigo Gomes pounced on a rebound after Hwang Hee-chan’s penalty had rattled the post in the 43rd minute.
But West Ham turned the game around in the second half:
Tomas Soucek powered home a header five minutes after the restart.
In the 63rd minute, Lucas Paquetá nodded in from close range after a pinpoint cross from Bowen, putting the visitors 2-1 up.
Sensing the game slipping away, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira—who had made eight changes to his starting XI—threw on fresh legs. The gamble paid off as Strand Larsen stole the spotlight:
In the 82nd minute, he smashed in a rebound after Areola’s save fell kindly to him.
Just three minutes later, a chaotic build-up ended with Jackson Tchatchoua whipping the ball back into the box, where Strand Larsen blasted home the winner to complete the comeback.
Potter: “We’re All Hurting”
A frustrated West Ham manager Graham Potter admitted the result was tough to swallow:
“We’re all in pain. The team’s suffering, we’re all hurting. Our supporters have been fantastic, and Jarrod cares deeply about this club. Everyone is frustrated because we haven’t had the results we’d like.”
